She Is Yours

She Is Yours

As I set out on this journey to guide my daughter to your love, I begin by simply releasing her into your care. ~ She Is Yours, Jonathan and Wynter Pitts

God, what’s wrong with my children? Why won’t they obey? I’ve tried behavioral modification techniques, shepherding their hearts, and all of the tools you’ve given me. But nothing is working! Despite my best efforts, I just can’t figure out Your plan for this parenting thing.

At times, do you find yourself feeling the same way?

The harder I tried to fix them (my children), fix their behaviors, and ultimately control them, the harder parenting became. I began reading and re-reading books, talking with friends, searching the internet, and praying for answers. Nothing. But back in February of this year (2017), God planted a seed that I had no idea was being planted in me. As my family and I browsed the massive exhibit hall of the Great Homeschool Convention, we came to the For Girls Like You table. While there, we picked up a copy of Hello Stars and the You’re God’s Girl coloring book. I thought these would be great resources for my daughter and I to share together.

Along with the books, we received a card that read “She Is Yours“. As I began reading this card, I noticed it had a prayer written on it. That night, I prayed this beautiful prayer over my daughter and again in the morning during my quiet time. I included my son as well, by substituting the female pronouns with male pronouns. My daughter began asking to pray the prayer with me at night, and we did.

Months later, at a point of desperation and loss of control, I came across a Facebook post to be a part of the launch team for the book She Is Yours. I thought, “No way, God!” I signed up and was notified that I’d be part of a group that would preview this new book and provide feedback.

About She Is Yours

In their new book, She Is Yours, Jonathan and Wynter Pitts remind us that our daughters (and sons in my case) are His. They are a gift to us, but like everything else we have in this world, it all belongs to Him. We are to parent from this perspective, leading our children to God’s grace.

She Is Yours offers practical advice and encouragement while on this journey of parenting our daughters (and sons) God’s way. Parenting is not always easy; and no, it doesn’t come with a manual. But when we look to God and are committed to raising our children His way, His purpose will prevail.

“Gods plan for our daughters involves our relationship with Him, our commitment to His word, and our preparation for each day of their lives.” ~ Jonathan and Wynter Pitts

Training up our children in the way they should go, is more about our actions than it is our words. We are called to be His image bearers. And as we reflect the character of God, our children will experience what the love of God looks like and reflect that very nature.

She Is Yours is biblically sound and beautifully convicting. I love the prayers at the end of each chapter and the inclusion of the father’s perspective. So, ladies this isn’t just another “mom book”. I encourage you to read it to or with your husband as you embark on this parenting journey together.

She Is Yours Influence

My perspective of parenting has shifted from one of unintentional control, frustration, and self-reliance, to that of relinquishment, joy, and God-reliance. I now parent from the perspective that as I draw closer to God and allow His light to shine through me, my kids will be influenced for His glory. I don’t have to have it all figured out, because I know the one who does.

This book challenged me to do things like:

  • Put my knowledge into action
  • Have my quiet time when my kids are awake
  • Pray over my children throughout the day allowing them to see and hear me, and
  • Continue our morning devotionals.

She Is Yours is jammed packed with wonderful knowledge and wisdom. I wish I could share it all! Read it for yourself, and I know you will be blessed. Once you’ve read it, let me know how it’s influencing your life and parenting. Our kids are His. I pray that being reminded of this brings you peace in parenting.

Your growth affects your children’s growth. Let’s all do this together!
